Blog: Looking for an adventurous programmer

If I say AJAX and you think 'toiler cleaner', you should definitely skip this post. But if your vernacular includes a different kind of AJAX, perhaps along with such other lovely acronyms as PHP or XML, then read on!

You see, our ambitions for the site are quickly exceeding our programming capacity. That's why we are looking for a clever web programmer who can give some of our planned new features the love and attention they so crave. Maybe you are the one who can help us out!

What kind of features are we talking about? Well, you can probably already think of some areas on this site that aren't as good as they could be. For instance, we'd really like to re-code our screenshot galleries from scratch so that we can drop the current off-the-shelf Flash solution. We'd really like to have a slideshow of recent articles (such as on GameSpot, ShackNews and many other gaming sites). We'd also really like to add all sorts of other new interactivity and functionality to the site. All of that requires some extra hands.

We're not in a position to offer payment at this time, but we may be able to reward you with some free games. In addition, you will get a chance to get your hands dirty with a large high-traffic website and maybe learn some cool new stuff.

Lately we have been using jQuery for front-end behaviors, AJAX and visual effects. It's a JavaScript library that allows you to pull off complex things with very little code. If you have never worked with jQuery, this could be a great opportunity to try it out. Take a look at some of the examples at jQuery.com (I'm sure you'll love what you see).

If you are interested in taking a swing at coding a couple of modules for the site, or might know someone else who would, please drop me a line at [email protected]!
