Well, I'm sure that I'll get many many bad critics for this post, but I think Jack Orlando: Director's Cut is good game and it is something like "Who done it?" adventure. Well, it was one of the first adventures I've played and I liked it.

Blue Heat, SFPD Homicide The Body in the Bay, Laura Bow 1 and 2. And of course the already mentioned Ripper.

There's also Cluedo Chronicles: Fatal Illusion.

It doesn't really have any scary moments but certain parts of the mansion, at the end, can be eerie/creepy.

Sorry for reviving such an old thread but it is linked in "Need a recommendation" stickied topic.

Obviously, I need a recommendation. I just finished Sherlock Holmes The Awekened. It was pretty good and I'm in the mood for some more investigating. Recommend me an excellent whodunnit or mystery game that works on Windows 7 or Linux easily. I don't mind the setting aslong as the game is good (Discworld Noir is an excellent example but I played that one) but I would prefer something based on real life.

I strongly suggest trying this little whodunit free game from 2009:

dun dun dun Mr Danger's Contest !

Yeah, it's a bit silly (the music and sound effects are hummed by the author), but it's a really fun and creative combo of Clue and X-Men (sic!).

Dracula: The Path of the Dragon is a great mystery/horror title. It was remade so many times since 2008, that I think it should work on any system or platform now Although I recommend to grab the original version.

I haven't played any of the versions yet - that's why I'm asking. I'd hate end up with a subpar one.

Well, I only played the original 2008 version, that's why I'm suggesting to stick with it

I'm fairly certain I played the original version cause it didn't show the Big Fish logo at the beginning. Just the Kheops logo.

It's a nice enough game though far from perfect. The story's good. The plot unfolds at a very nice pace and is wrapped up very nicely at the end which is unfortunately not allways the case wih AGs. Dialogue's are good too but the puzzles. They're a lot of fun at the beginning but they get harder and harder to the point that they're practically undoable without a walkthrough and certainly no fun anymore. The final section of the game is way to long and far too cluttered with overly difficult puzzles. Which is a real shame cause it leaves you with an unpleasant feeling after what is for the largest part a very good game.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from playing it just be warned: the end is a bit of a downer unless you like extremely convoluted puzzles.

Good news! There are three more SH games by Frogwares: SH: The Secret of the Silver Earring, SH vs Arsene Lupin and SH vs Jack the Ripper with a new installment out due soon

The big fish one is a casual sequel to full adventure Dracula Origin. I think it's called Love Kills.

Yeah I should have mentioned I played Frogwares previous SH games. I guess I should continue onto SH vs Arsene Lupin and then Jack the Ripper... Probably will finish them just before Testaments come out.

Thanks for the suggestions. Feel free to bring more and don't leave out classics if they can somehow be run on newer PCs.

Edit: Wow, Maupiti Island really seems like the perfect Adventure Game for me. I might dare to try and run that. I wonder will it be able to top my toplist (which is Discworld: Noir, Beneath a Steel Sky and The Longest Journey)!? The premise seems a lot like Sinking Island.

Another one that could pass for a whodunnit is 'The Last Express'.
It certainly does the 'shocking revelation' right.

I'm not sure whether Murder in the Abbey is any good, but it's another murder mystery.

Some may argue that older Sherlock Holmes titles - The Case of the Serrated Scalpel and The Case of the Rose Tattoo are even better than newer ones.
