Penumbra: Overture demo released
Playable sampler marks Episode One going gold

Just when you thought it was safe to come out again, another horror adventure demo springs out of the closet. This time around, the scares come from Sweden, where developer Frictional Games has released a demo to celebrate the completion of the first episode of Penumbra: Overture, which has now been sent off for duplication.

A first-person, full 3D adventure that makes use of "advanced physics interaction", Penumbra: Overture is a planned trilogy of games that includes some survival horror elements. According to the developers, however, "instead of relying on combat as the main gameplay element Penumbra focuses on puzzles, exploration and enemies have to be dealt with by using wits rather than brute strength."

Episode One will introduce players to Philip, who sets out on the trail of a father he believes dead. His journey takes him to an underground complex in Greenland, where he soon becomes trapped and needs to "not only fight for his survival, but for his sanity as well."

The 115 MB demo can be found at standard download sites like FileFront and GamersHell.

The first episode of Penumbra: Overture is due out later this month. For more information about the game, head on over to the official website.
