The first impression of CastleAbra will hit you like a punch in the face, in a couple of ways. Not only is the new traditional first-person fantasy adventure being created by indie developer Facepuncher Worldwide, it's a rare comedy using the familiar Myst-style format.

In CastleAbra, the lovely Princess Myrna Loo has been kidnapped and locked in the castle of an old warlock named Wizardo when she spurned his affections. With the damsel in distress, it's the player's job to "infiltrate the castle, befriend the wizard and work behind his back to rescue your beloved Princess." This will be no small task, as there are plans for as many as 100 different hand-painted locations to explore.



That all sounds like standard fantasy fare, and the developers refer to the game as "a traditional first person, point and click exploration game in the style of such classics as Shadowgate and Myst." As the game's debut trailer indicates, however, CastleAbra is a rather offbeat comedy that seeks to tell a "funny story that explores the painful side of human emotions mainly centering on the heartache of unrequited love."

CastleAbra has been in development for the past 18 months, but there is still no firm target for the game's release. Facepuncher is currently seeking funds to help with a speedier completion of the project, but they assure us that the game will be finished in any case.
