Tom Hanks... Bill Murray... Jim Carrey... It seems inevitable that those who successfully cut their teeth on comedy eventually seek to broaden their horizons with more dramatic endeavours. Now it’s Pendulo Studios’ turn. After the quirky comic Runaway trilogy and the offbeat monster mash The Next BIG Thing, the Spanish developer set its sights on much darker fare. The same high-quality hand-drawn artwork remains, but instead of flamboyant drag queens, alien conspiracy buffs, and urinating mechanical dogs, Yesterday tells the macabre tale of brutal serial murders set against a backdrop of torture, bloodshed, Satanism, and madness. Oh, yeah. This is a whole new kind of Pendulo Studios adventure, all right.

The game casts players primarily in the titular role of John Yesterday, a man who lost his memory in an apparent (but inexplicable) suicide attempt while investigating a religious cult in France. Besides trying to unravel the mystery behind the ritual New York killings – an investigation begun by the nerdy Henry White and his burly pal Cooper a year earlier in a brief playable turn for each – John must also attempt to restore the lost fragments of his own complex past. The twisting storyline crosses countries and spans centuries, presenting a series of seemingly disjointed adventures and revelations that tease you with glimpses of a startling truth but never the shocking whole until the end. Even the outcome is in doubt, as your choice of the three protagonists for the grand finale determines which ending you’ll experience.

With the game’s digital release upon us, we are eager to unleash this new (and in many ways improved) Pendulo adventure on an unsuspecting public. To that end, we are pleased to offer free downloadable copies of the game to three lucky winners, courtesy of The Adventure Shop. To be eligible, you simply need to shave your head, swear eternal allegiance to Adventure Gamers, and devote yourself to a monastic life… Nah, just kidding. (You can’t run computer games on flower power!) All you really need to do is correctly answer the three quiz questions below, and your name could be one of the randomly chosen winners. And if you’re feeling a little brainwashed yourself, rest assured that all the answers you need can be found in our review of the game.

The contest will run for seven days, ending Wednesday, April 4th, and winners will be notified by email. So enter today, and Yesterday could arrive in a week (try wrapping your brain around THAT chronology!).
