When adventurers think of games in France, a quaint but picturesque streetside café probably leaps immediately to mind, or perhaps a tiny medieval castle town filled with conspiracy-minded tourists. What they undoubtedly don’t think of, no matter how long they’re given, are flying pyramids, totalitarian regimes, monstrous law enforcement creatures, and Egyptian gods. But that’s only because they’ve yet to be introduced to the surreal mind of Enki Bilal, and soon they will be. With this week’s release of White Birds’ Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals, gamers in the UK are about to be exposed to Bilal’s unique vision of Paris, 2023.

Based on Bilal's acclaimed graphic novel trilogy, the game adaptation of Nikopol casts players in the title role of Alcide Nikopol, a struggling artist in a grim, dystopian near future. Here the poor masses are physically separated from the wealthy few, in a city not only in the grip of of a tyrannical dictator but also living under the shadow (to an extent, quite literally) of a giant hovering ship, shaped like a pyramid and inhabited by Egyptian “gods” who have an unusually vested interest in human affairs. Against this already bizarre backdrop, Nikopol learns that his astronaut father, whom he’d long believed dead, is in fact still alive and kept hidden underground, a central figure in an ongoing power struggle between vastly different worlds of anarchy and immortality.

If that sounds like a great place to visit if you don’t have to live there, now you can have the best of both worlds. Unlike Bilal’s protagonist, you live in a world where even in times of economic trouble, Adventure Gamers is actually giving stuff away! With essential help from Lighthouse Interactive, of course, the game’s UK publisher who has generously provided free retail copies of Nikopol for three lucky winners. The only condition, besides swearing eternal allegiance to us, is to correctly answer the three quiz questions below. But while we’re still giving things away, I’ll point out that all the answers you need can be found in our White Birds feature.

The contest will run for one week, ending Thursday December 4th, and winners will be notified by government-approved email.
